Genesis Cancer Care Western Australia

Genesis Cancer Care operates four locations in Western Australia and is the state’s leading private provider of essential radiation therapy services. We provide all patients, publicly or privately referred, with rapid access to high quality, personalised care.

Fiona Stanley Hospital, Murdoch
Perth Radiation Oncology, Wembley
Shenton House, Joondalup
South West Radiation Oncology Service, Bunbury

Shenton House is unique in that it is a modern comprehensive cancer centre offering both medical oncology and radiation oncology services under the one roof.

Radiation treatments available across, but not necessarily at all, centres include:

  • 3D Conformal Radiotherapy (3DCRT)
  • Electron Beam Therapy (EBT)
  • High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR)
  • Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT)
  • Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT)
  • Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
  • Superficial X-ray Treatment (SXRT)
  • Tin Foil Modified Electron (TME)
  • Total Body Irradiation (TBI)
  • Total Lymphatic Irradiation (TLI)
  • Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)

Radiation therapy is vital in about 40% of all cancers that are cured.1

Radiation therapy can reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence, for example, by about 70%.2

About 50% of cancer patients will benefit from radiation therapy during the course of their cancer journey.1

Radiation therapy has experienced rapid technological advancements in the past couple of decades. Modern linear accelerators can reduce the time the patient spends on the treatment couch by up to 50%. Accuracy is sub-millimetre, reducing unwanted doses of radiation to surrounding organs and healthy tissue. In some instances, radiation therapy alone can cure cancers. Combining treatment modalities such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, hormones or surgery often provides the best outcome depending on the condition and what is required.

However, only one in three patients receives this essential treatment because of a lack of convenient access to treatment facilities and a lack of understanding of appropriate treatment options regarding radiation therapy.

About Genesis Care

Genesis Cancer Care is part of Genesis Care, the largest provider of radiation oncology, cardiology and sleep treatments in Australia.

Genesis Care exists to fill the treatment gap for the biggest disease burdens in Australia—cancer and cardiovascular disease—in an environment of substantial unmet demand from an ageing population.

Cancer and cardiovascular disease are the two largest health burdens in Australia, representing more than a third of recurrent healthcare expenditure. More than one in three Australians will discover they have cancer by the age of 75 and the incidence is increasing across all cancer types. Although Australia has one of the highest survival rates in the world, cancer is the largest contributor to disease and injury in Australia and the second most common cause of death.

With over 1400 employees nationwide, Genesis Care provides essential health care services across 115 sites and clinics ranging from major capital cities to regional and rural centres, including Bunbury.

We take pride in the quality of our care, our staff, and our equipment. We employ the latest available technology and equipment across all of our practices. All of our machines are regularly upgraded and replaced as needed to maintain the highest quality treatment services in this critical area of cancer management.

What is radiation therapy?

radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is a localised form of treatment. Most side effects are directly related to the area being irradiated. The severity and duration of these effects are not only dependant on dose, but also the patient's general health. Read more
